![]() More and more child specialists are discovering that a child who responds to everyday occurrences in an unusual way may be on the autism spectrum. This finding goes hand-in-hand with the latest research that shows about one out of every 91 children could be classified on the autism spectrum – a broad area of behavior including Asperger’s Syndrome, Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD-NOS) and Autism. To provide families with children on the autism spectrum a more effective approach, Dr. Cheyette received certification as an RDI® Consultant in 2008. Dr. Cheyette chose the RDI® method of autism treatment because it encourages the natural parent/child mentoring relationship rather than the scripted situation/response technique of some other programs. Utilizing RDI® techniques, Dr. Cheyette teaches families how to function and manage more effectively at home, school, and in future work, social, and other situations. Additionally, Dr. Cheyette is fully credentialed in autism diagnosis. By first administering recognized tests such as the ADOS to determine if a child is on the autism spectrum, she can then work with the parents and school to develop programs and attitudes that are more in line with the needs of the child.
